Copenhagen

Though the city boasts an ever-changing variety of nightclubs, there are several major venues that are worth mentioning. Copenhagen's discos and clubs do not tend to get really going until after midnight, so many clubbers choose to spend time in the city's super-hip pre-club bars, such as Stereo Bar and Ideal Bar. On top of this, many of Copenhagen's venues develop as each evening progresses, from bar to restaurant to club, locally termed as hybrids.

The Copenhagen jazz scene has an enviable international reputation, and there are also several excellent blues and rock clubs in the city.

Live music

Jazz
Jazz is quite popular, and Copenhagen has been the home of many international stars through the years. Several jazz clubs can be found in the downtown area, the Copenhagen Jazzhouse being, perhaps, the best known. Their programme is published on their homepage, and with luck you could be there when one of the world celebrities drop by.

Live Dinnershow
At Wallmans Saloner a spectacular floor show is performed from one of the 7 stages. During the evening a multi course gourmet supper is served and you might recognise the person serving at your table as he or she is likely to have been among the performers on stage.

Blues and folk
Try Mojo or Drop Inn, where there is often live music, especially by the end of the week. It happens that musicians just drop by and play a number or two. Lades Kælder offers live music 365 days a year. All types of music from the world of rhythmic music are played: rock, soul, country, jazz, lounge and R&B.

Clubbing

Downtown
Just off Kongens Nytorv is Baron Boltens Gård with a number of bars and discos. At the Copenhagen Jazz House off Strøget, the pedestrian street , the evening starts off with live jazz. This means that if you come for the jazz, be sure to come when the programme start. Later, around midnight, it is transformed into a regular disco for the younger crowd.

Østerbro
The trendy Park Diskotek has nothing to do with soccer in spite of its proximity and similar name to PARKEN, Denmark's national soccer stadion. There are several dance floors, where you can dance to disco music all night long beneath crystal chandeliers and surrounded by marble columns.

Nørrebro
This is the red, hot district of Copenhagen. Up-and-coming, trendy and alternative. There are a number of Salsa, Samba and Latin joints. At Rust some of Denmark's best DJs meet with guest DJs from the rest of the world. Inspiring surroundings, cool drinks and the informal atmosphere takes care of the rest.

Hybrid Bars

A new and popular genre in Copenhagen are the so-called 'hybrid bars' of 'fusion restaurants'. Everywhere these new phenomena are appearing that combine restaurants and bars.

Aura
One of these is Aura at Nytorv. Uncomplicated food with a lot of good taste is on the menu. You can check out Aura's concept of using fantasy together with skill by ordering one of their menus. Eight, eleven or fourteen courses, each one an exquisite experience. Restaurant, cocktail bar and surround sound add to the special Aura universe.
